Since the start of the Syrian Civil War, more than 6.7 million Syrians have become refugees, with a similar number internally displaced. Lebanon has become home to the largest number of Syrian refugees per capita in the world—30% are Syrian refugees. The COVID-19 situation added to the political, financial and economic complexity. The country is diving rapidly into a complex poverty situation, with protests growing across the country in response. The World Bank estimates that more than 50% of Lebanese are under the poverty line.
